In meetings and lectures across the globe, people are made to endure hideous presentation slides featuring some of the wildest colors, clip art and typography. Many websites are so confusingly laid out, that you get dizzy from the overload of boxes, images or links. And every day, people receive resumés, invoices and ads ... *cue lightning and thunder* set in the Comic Sans font.

It's enough to make the average designer's hair turn blue, fall out, morph into a ninja and stab him/her in the eyes.

jQuery: Making JavaScript Fun Again

jQuery is a relatively new JavaScript library that has dazzled many web developers with its revolutionary syntax, flexibility, speed and ease of use. Many CMSes, like Drupal, have included jQuery in their distributions and have used it to enhance the user interface and experience.

This talk will give you an overview of JavaScript and its use, and how jQuery gets rid of many annoyances and makes coding the browser fun again. We'll do some live jQuery'ing and show off some cool tricks that are useful when building CMS-style interfaces.

This session is for the various CMS projects to share their own general documentation best practices strategies. What works? What doesn't? What are we doing well, and what can we do better?

Topics might include something like:

How to balance a low bar to user participation with quality/clarity of documentation?
How to both define and write for all your target audiences?
The great debate: wikis or structured handbooks?
What to do with old / out-dated documentation?
What to do with documentation for a new version of your product?
