Living Space(...for drupalers)
Tags:
We have a cool house, 4 cool people, and plenty fo floor space, several couches, and a backyard for tents; people looking for not-your-average conference accomodations just a bike ride form Yahoo!.... In exchange for installing Drupal locally on our house server.
In the spirit of the F[REE]OSS community; wireless internet, beer, and we'll even cook dinner for you!
I work at a non-profit community service agency and trying to get our agency aware of the FOSS community via my program, a house sharing program. Drupal just seems made for house sharing, and I have devoted a lot of my time to understanding how to merge the two communities in a nexus of sharing and coolaboration.
You can stay longer than the conference if you are planning to hang out in the bay area! Just keep in mind that we all work and week days are low key with early quite times, but the weekends can get fun and roudy.

sounds great
and afaik beers & drupal are a proven concept ;)
if theres still place count me in
Hey, whats up! I'm running it by the roomies right now. Looks like it should be a go. I would be able to give you a ride down to Yahoo. I am planning to try and attend as many sessions as I can, but I might have to bail out in the afternoon on thursday for some other work related mneetings.
We have some bikes that can be ridden, I think its about 3 miles or so. shouldn't be too much hassle to figure out getting to/from Yahoo.
What days are you planning on being in town? Also, just for consideration purposes, our house server is a Mac. I have a partition that we can install a linux distribution on if need be. I've tried several times to install Drupal, but there is so much that I am not fully comfortable with setting up and maintaining the database, etc.
I'll keep you update...

Hi Tim
Well im arriving in SF Friday the 16. & going home to rainy Copenhagen again the 26
- taking a couple of day off before the summit.
I havent anything planned ...yet - besides finding a place to crash (in SF and somewhere near the conference) & hopefully checking SF out - as the Beer enthusiast that iam, i must check up on the micro breweries in the Area - so anybody wanna be a tour guide ? ;)
as we all knows macs kick as - so that wont be a prob.
... and well actually that drupal stuff is pretty easy -just ask Dries ;)
btw Dont worry i wasn't planning on crashing 10 days at the house ;)
rock on!

We wouldn't have let you waste your time in sunnyvale for 10 days anyway, there are way cooler places to be in the Bay Area! Although we try and bring the liveliness to this suburbia. There happens to be a local micro brew in town just down the street! and plenty more in SF, and we like to keep the fridge in the garage full of sweet sweet beer! Any chance you can bring some Danish brew with?
Great you use a mac, I wish I was more savvy with drupal and databases, I get hung up a lot and end up not knowing how to fix things when they go wrong.
well, I just need the final word from one other roomie and we can say its a go for sure. There was a discussion on the bay area drupal group about how the conference space was full and people can't sign up anymore, too bad we can't hold sessions at the house too. seems like this community could fire up a nice distributed conference.
tim
ill se what i can do :)
I got one of the best danish micro breweries as a client (http://bryggeriskovlyst.dk) got a meeting with them next week anyways, so ill see if i cant get something sent over to the suburbs of SF ;) or in the spirit of opensource -> http://free-beer.dk ;)
(and i know that the mighty merlinofchaos deserves a brew or 2 for his work with views)
is the signup full now? hmmm well if you got the room isnt it just throwing up a note at the conference - beers & drupal @ the suburbs come geek a long in the weekend ;)
If there is still more room, I'd love to join y'all too. I'll likely drive down from southeast Oregon in a (sometimes biodiesel) pickup, arrive on 21st and leave on 24/25th.
Go bikes, beer, Drupal and community!
If anyone wants to skate some local downhill or parks, that would be terrific also.
Hey Sam, thats cool you drive a biodiesel truck! If you are going to do some rad tricks on your skateboard, I'll shoot some photos, we've got a park not too far away

I think we'll cap it at two guests for now. Lets all meet here on wed evening for a beer. Its in downtown sunnyvale and right across the street from the train station.
Tandonian,
I've had a change of plans and will not make it this year.
Thank you to you and your roommates for the kind offer.

Hi Tandonian,
Do you still have some space available? I'm used to travel with my tent, so the backyard is perfect for me. As an entrance fee, I can offer you some good Belgium beer and of course help you out with the Drupal installation.
I'm arriving the 20th and I'm due to go back on the 26st.
I hope I can still join in!
Hey Toemaz, yeah, I'm cool with you staying over. Two other guys have found other arrangements or are not coming, so it stands as you and Morten right now. I planned on wed night being the first night and people can stay through saturday night. Above I posted a link to the brewery we are going to meet at on wed night in downtown sunnyvale, which is about 100 meters from the train stop in sunnyvale. I'd rather not post our address on this forum, so lets all jut meet for beers and we can head over to the house afterwards. I'll wear a bright orange shirt and be sitting in the bar area. I can be over there by 6pm or so. just incase, the address to the brewery is
111 S Murphy Ave
Sunnyvale, CA 94086
and my phone number is
408-329-6380
Looking forward to a drupal immersion!

Great! Starting the conference with a beer session. I'm looking forward to that ;-)
Thx again for the hospitality
My name is also Sam, I hope this doesn't get confusing. If possible I would like to stay with you guys while in Sunnyvale. I'm fine with the tent option if the house is full up.
I'm flying in from New York City the evening of the 21st. My flight gets in at 9:50 and I fly out Sunday night the 25th at 10:45 (I can leave anytime Sunday - I travel light.
I've never been to the Bay area, and hope to see some of the sites at off-conference times.
Ummm... not sure what else to say. You can reach me at sam /at/ treslerdesigns .dot. com or six-Four-6-two-4-Six-eight-4-zero-three. I'm 'samtresler' in #drupal or #drupal-dojo. And 'Tresler' on drupal.org
Oh - and setting up drupal for housesharing is a breeze - I'd be happy to spend one of my off days working with you setting this up and answering any drupal questions you might have. Cheers!
Hey Sam, Thats cool, lets met up at the brewery in my post above at 6pm on wed night.
*****I'm Capping It Off At Three******
Thanks!
Hey,
Not looking for a place to stay... however a beer on Wed night sounds like a great idea... Is this an all-inclusive gathering or just for those staying with you.
