Description:

Joomla! extensions are easy to build and even easier to distribute. They're the ideal method for incorporating existing PHP code into the Joomla! framework or adding new functionality. This session will cover the differences between the three extension types and when to use each. We'll also discover how a component, module, and plugin come together to create the Podcast Suite: a Joomla! based platform for publishing podcasts.

Next, we'll delve into the Daily Message component, which has very basic functionality. We'll then see what happens when we attempt to install it on beta 1.5. We'll also take a look at some of the new framework features 1.5 has to offer.

Hi Joseph,

you will present this talk based on the new 1.5 framework will you?

Looking forward listening to it.

Alex

It depends on who shows up. If it's mainly people unfamiliar with Joomla, I'll stick more general concepts (what's the difference between a component and module, etc...). If it's mainly the Joomla crowd, we can probably get into some of the differences and similarities between the versions. Podcast Suite is currently 1.x only though.

I think as this is a developer summit you can go into the details. All of us love to develop PHP so I assume most of them might be able to follow you.

I will do so and focus my talk primarily on the technical/architectural things.

Alex

Please Joseph go on with 1.5.x!
I won't be there but I'd like to read your notes somewhere on your blog (or with a new version of dailymessage ready for 1.5.x).
Thanks.

I will gear it towards developers. However, even if you are very technically inclined, you still need a general understanding of how the pieces work together.
